Sand sculpting
At the Merry-Christmas village we have a lot of creative elves that love to make all kinds of artwork. This week Elf Aklak took one of the Christmas sleighs down to the ocean shores of Australia and New Zealand and collected about 16 tons of sand. Elf Aklak said it took her almost a full day for her and ten other elves to sift through the sand. I think they they might have enjoyed some ocean surfing while they were away...some of the elves had sunburns! I'm sure Mrs. Clause will remind them about wearing sunscreen!
What they are doing is preparing for a Merry Christmas Village sand sculpture contest. They thought they'd be different this year and have some fun with sand! I told Elf Aklak that this was a great idea! She did mention they will still make ice sculptures but wanted to try their creative sculpture skills with sand. They asked me for a theme for the contest. I gave it some thought and I know how Mrs. Claus likes flowers, so that's the theme that I suggested. The elves in the contest thought this would be fun and started packing the sand right away. The contest begins next week so we'll wait and see what they come up with!
