My favorite breakfast?
I just received a letter from a child in Australia that wanted to know what I like to eat for breakfast. You know, I never really gave it much thought but I immediately wrote her back and listed several foods that I'm fond of. I wrote that I like to try just about anything. A bowl of cereal with some milk and perhaps a slice of fruit often works just fine. Sometimes, a stack of buttermilk pancakes and some hot chocolate really fills the bill. I like to make pancakes myself, it entertains the elves when I do my artful quadruple pancake flip! - I am so lucky here at the Merry Christmas village because we get elves from all over the world, and they bring in all kinds of foods to share. However, one of my most favorite breakfasts is a serving of apple-cinnamon oatmeal with fresh blueberries mixed in! MMMMmmmm! Add a glass of milk, perhaps a half of a wheat bagel with strawberry jam and I'm set! But, what I think is really important is that we should all try different foods. Often, when I'm visiting China I'll get a warm bowl of congee which is a watery rice gruel that's a lot like porridge. It is really tasty! I've even had this wonderful food in Egypt made with fava beans - you spread this mixture of fava bean, tomato, onion and all kinds of spices and put it on pita bread just like you would with butter. Ho! Ho! Hmmmm!
